But where did this small and some what company get their humble start? Simple, a man named Kris Bomttri. In the mid-80's he viewed a movie that would forever change his life, Cave Dwellers. After viewing the movie he vowed that one day he would make a successful video game based on it. Years later he would find out that Cave Dwellers was not actually the original name of the movie but a re-edit of Ator I'invincibile 2 an Italian movie which was made to cash in on the Conan series.
On April 7th 1987, Spooky games led by Mr. Bomttri and four hard working employees (who's names have been lost in the annuls of time) released their first game, Cave Dwellers for the PC. Half of Mr. Bomttri's dream had come true, he created a game based on the cult classic Cave Dwellers. It's scores were average but despite this it was only one away from making the top ten game releases that week. While the game was not as successful as everyone wanted to, it made their appetites for Game Dev. that much stronger.
Almost exactly one year later Spooky Games moved to the hand-held platform releasing their sequel to Cave Dwellers. Spooky games had cemented their place at the top of gaming entertainment. Again the game did not do as well as Mr. Bomttri had hoped but it was Spooky games first game to break top ten in the week and it sold almost 50% more copies than the original game. Over the next couple of years Spooky games moved their flag ship game to consoles were it did increasingly better, Cave Dwellers 4 sold 300% more copies than the original. The company even hired Kilo O'Keeffe, Miles O'Keeffe's (the original star of the Cave Dwellers movie) brother, to do voice acting. But the processor of the PCC-PQX could not handle the sound and the sound bits would not be used until later down the road.
Seven years after Spooky games released their flag ship titles they decided to take a risk and release something new for the newly released NEONGEON system. They decided to work some a genre that was popular in Japan but hadn't had much exposure to the rest of the world. They release a life romance game titles Fuck Quest. The over all quality of the game was poor but sales were strong due to it's fun factor. The money made justified a sequel and an eventual spin-off and reboot Fuck Quest Z which was a RPG romance rather than a life simulator.
While the Cave Dwellers series all 8 of them and their two spin off series Cave Quest and Cave Dwellers online have been exceedingly popular Spooky Games owes it's success to the game series Mech Man an action RPG series about a half man half mech hybrid and Skid Marx a robot racing series about Marxist robots. Much of this has to do with the hard work of Spooky Games' employees such as Charles Royal and Deter McPhee who helped design many of the games released by the company in the past fifteen years, they even helped win several gaming awards for the Cave Dwellers series. John Dough has become very famous among underground video game fans as one of the best score directors in recent memory and has several gaming awards on his mantle. Even the work horses liked Donny Jepp (not to be confused with John Dep from Celebrity Zillions) and Mister X (who was a luchedor before coming to work at Spooky Games) deserve some mentions. All of them are working hard on their next project, the all new expansion for Cave Dwellers online.
